How It All STarted
Nought Milk began as the result of its creator’s intolerance of cow milk.
At a young age, Anni, the creator of Nought Milk, suffered from problems like acid reflux and skin blemishes. After trying a series of prescription and over-the-counter medications that did not help, Anni’s mother did some research and suggested that she try eliminating cow milk from her diet. Anni took her mother’s advice and her skin and digestion improved almost immediately.
Over the years, Anni tried integrating cow milk back into her diet to test the theory. Each and every time she did, her skin became oilier, blemishes appeared, and she felt sick to her stomach.
Now in her mid-twenties, Anni has maintained a diet free of cow milk for over half of her life. Anni created Nought Milk to share her love for food and cooking, as well as her experience cooking with alternatives to cow milk.
“I grew up in a family of women who were amazing cooks. I lived for the holidays when these women would cook–baked macaroni and cheese on Thanksgiving, clam chowder on Christmas Eve, cheesecakes on Christmas. I loved all these foods and when I gave up cow milk, I thought I had to give up these foods. However, as I got older and learned more about cooking, I realized that most of these recipes could be accomplished with cow milk alternatives like the nut milks, goat milk, and sheep milk.
I, reluctantly, tried goat milk for the first time in high school and thought it would give me the same skin and stomach problems I had with cow milk, but it didn’t. I was able to have goat milk and sheep milk with no problem…and it was delicious. As a result, I’ve spent over a decade cooking with goat milk, sheep milk, and dairy alternatives.
Eliminating cow milk from my diet has made me healthier and happier and I am still free to live deliciously.”
